A little bit more

Garlic (female, tortie, 2 years’ old) and Ginger (male, ginger & 5 years’ old) had been living stray in a garden in Hampshire for almost a year. Throughout that time, they were fed and cared for in the garden by their Finders who kindly built a shelter for them. Unable to care for the cats on a long-term basis and becoming increasingly concerned about their welfare, their Finders contacted HFC for support and advice.

Following an unsuccessful local search for the cats’ owners, we made arrangements to bring Garlic and Ginger into care. We first made an appointment for them to see our Shelter Vet for a thorough health check and to be neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. Both cats tested positive for FIV, but are otherwise healthy.

We then took Garlic and Ginger into the care of our cattery space on the Surrey/Hampshire border where they have settled in well.  Ginger takes a minute or two to “warm up” to humans but is easily persuaded with treats! Tortie girl, Garlic, is the most confident and appeared to overshadow Ginger initially.  We therefore separated the pair and they both appear to be more content to have their own space. They are both very sweet and affectionate cats who will make great companions to their adopters. For their own safety and to prevent the spread of FIV, we are seeking to re-home Garlic and Ginger to loving, indoor homes.

If either Garlic or Ginger have captured your heart and you are interested in adopting one of them, please review the checklist opposite for details about the type of forever home they are looking for before completing our application form below.  Thank you.
